A Russian drone struck the central headquarters of Ukraine’s Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Kyiv on Friday, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The strike hit the building on Volodymyrska Street, across from St. Sophia Cathedral. Zelenskyy said the drone was aimed directly at the office of acting SBU head Oleksandr Poklad. Zelenskyy stated he had spoken with Poklad after the attack and that emergency services were at the scene.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that five to seven people were injured. Heavy black smoke rose from the site. No deaths were immediately confirmed in official statements.

The attack occurred during a period of sustained Russian drone and missile assaults on the capital that have continued day and night in recent days. The SBU building is located in the historic center of Kyiv near major landmarks.

Zelenskyy indicated that a response would be prepared. Russia has not issued an immediate public comment on the specific strike in available reports.
