Alaska’s K-12 schools will receive an extra $115 million this year from higher oil revenues, the Department of Revenue confirmed. The funds are part of nearly $600 million in surplus unrestricted general fund collections. Money will be distributed by the state’s education funding formula based on student counts. Kenai Peninsula School District is expected to receive about $7.6 million. Anchorage, Mat-Su, and Fairbanks districts are also projected for sizable shares. Many districts have faced budget pressure and school closures. The allocation is one-time and subject to final revenue numbers later this fall.
