A high wind warning is in effect for the Bering Strait Coast, Diomede, St. Lawrence Island, and the Western Arctic Coast as a strong Bering Sea storm moves across western Alaska. Southwest winds of 30-45 mph with gusts to 65 mph are expected from Wednesday afternoon through Friday. High surf and potential for coastal flooding are also forecast for much of the area.

A wind advisory remains in effect for the central and eastern Interior through Wednesday evening, with west winds of 15-25 mph and gusts of 30-40 mph in lower elevations, stronger at higher elevations. Heavy rain and strong winds are moving across Southeast Alaska, with a wind advisory for Juneau, Haines, and Skagway for gusts of 35-45 mph.

In contrast, Southcentral Alaska is expected to see a return to sunny, dry, and warmer conditions Wednesday through Saturday afternoon as high pressure builds following the clearance of Tuesday’s storm. Clouds are breaking over Anchorage and rain is ending.

The National Weather Service and Alaska’s News Source reported the pattern shift, with the Bering Sea system driving the strongest winds and precipitation across the west and north while southern areas stabilize. Residents in warned areas are advised to secure outdoor objects and monitor coastal conditions.
